WALSALL REGENERATION COMPANY LOOKS TO INTERNATIONAL STAGE AFTER SUCCESSFUL LONDON LAUNCH - 2 February 2006
Walsall Regeneration Company (WRC) has set its sights on the international stage after a successful national launch of its development plans for the town.
Chief executive Dr Peter Cromar unveiled WRC’s ‘Prospectus for Growth’ to up to 100 key investors, potential funders, MPs and other opinion formers at a reception at the prestigious London headquarters of the Institute of Directors.
Dr Cromar said their response has been ‘fantastic’. “Taking the Walsall story to the capital and hosting the event at the IoD in Pall Mall sent out a very powerful message that Walsall is on the move and really does mean business,” he said.
“Interest from the investment and funding community, and major property developers, is overwhelming.
“I reminded these key players that Walsall is just two hours from London and invited them to see for themselves the outstanding opportunities there are for successful investment."
“Their response was fantastic - they want to learn more and find out how they can get involved.”
The ‘Prospectus for Growth’ details the eight transformational projects and the regeneration framework that will deliver more than 5,500 new jobs, around £755 million in public and private sector investment and more than 1,600 new homes in Walsall over the next 10 to 15 years.
Dr Cromar was joined on the IoD stage by WRC chairman Ben Reid and Councillor Adrian Andrew, cabinet member for regeneration for Walsall Council, who both spoke about their passion for a revitalised Walsall.
The next important step is to showcase the prospectus at MIPIM, the international property show which takes place at Cannes, in France, from March 14 to 17.
Dr Cromar said: “MIPIM attracts more than 17,000 delegates from over 70 countries and is the premier showcase in the international commercial property arena.
"We will be flying the flag for Walsall, promoting our theme of ‘Walsall, a Town for Enterprise’ and looking to attract interest from major investors and property developers."
