TEAM DRIVING WALSALL’S REGENERATION IS BOOSTED BY MAJOR PROJECTS DIRECTOR - 9 February 2009

Walsall Regeneration Company has appointed a Major Projects Director as it steps up its drive to deliver a resurgent 21st century town for enterprise with new homes, jobs and better opportunities.

Nick Bird, a former regeneration team leader with Advantage West Midlands who spent the last seven years in private sector development, brings wide experience, skills and enthusiasm to the newly created role.

He said: “I am very excited about joining a team that is so focused on transforming Walsall. The level of lateral thinking deployed here is impressive, attracting investment and bringing partners together to deliver innovative projects that benefit the whole community.

“My background is in regeneration and property development. With £500 million of investment committed to the town centre, in addition to the planning permission for the £400 million Gigaport office corridor scheme, I could see the town is really going places.

“Everyone knows the economy is decidedly shaky right now, but there’s a real head of steam in Walsall’s regeneration, and we’re confident we can maintain momentum during a tough 2009 so that Walsall is ahead of the game with 21st century infrastructure to take advantage of the upturn.”

Nick has experience in master planning, assembling land, procuring private and public sector partners and producing viable commercial solutions to bring land back into use and regenerate communities.

His previous post was development manager at ISIS Waterside Regeneration, where he worked on progressing large scale mixed-use development schemes at testing inner city sites in Birmingham and Nottingham.

Dr Peter Cromar, chief executive at WRC, said: “We are delighted that Nick has joined us. He has a proven track record in delivering complex urban regeneration projects, working with joint ventures and public/private partnerships and he will be an asset to our team.”
