WALSALL REGENERATION COMPANY ON THE MOVE - 9th September '05

Walsall Regeneration Company (WRC), which is tasked with masterminding the economic and physical renaissance of Walsall, has moved to new offices - and unveiled its company logo.

The offices at 65/ 66 Ablewell Street are in a restored Grade 2 listed building, erected in the mid to late 19th century, and which forms part of the area’s Townscape Heritage Initiative.

The move was marked by an informal reception for about 60 senior figures from WRC partner organisations and regeneration agencies.

WRC also revealed its company logo, which encapsulates the best of Walsall old and new, in St Matthew’s Church and the New Art Gallery Walsall, and the importance of the town’s canal system in the town’s regeneration.

Dr Peter Cromar, Development Director for WRC, said: “Moving into our own office is a small but important step for us.  The major milestone will be in the autumn, when we unveil the regeneration framework for the transformation of Walsall.”

WRC brings together the talents and expertise of the public and private sectors, with the aim of attracting £600 million of investment to Walsall by 2015, creating 15,000 jobs and restoring large areas of derelict land to economic use.

Development Director Will Evans added: “Ablewell Street is a prominent location close to St Matthew’s Church, one of Walsall’s best known landmarks.

“It is on a major route into the town centre and the WRC area, which covers more than 1,900 acres of the borough.

“It gives us an excellent base from which to operate and to meet with leading players from the investment, development and regeneration communities.

“They are the people who will work with us in returning Walsall to its rightful position as a leading Black Country town, playing an important role in the economic success of the Birmingham city region and wider West Midlands.”

Will added that taking offices in Ablewell Street was a modern use of a restored building, which is one of the elements of regeneration.  WRC’s previous offices, which it shared, were in Ward Street, Walsall.
