Public Exhibition to highlight £100m proposals for Business & Learning Campus and new Tesco store - 17 May 2006
A two-day exhibition giving the public the opportunity to see the latest detailed proposals for a Business and Learning Campus and a new Tesco store in Walsall will open next week.
The exhibition, on Tuesday and Wednesday, 23 and 24 May, will be held at The Crossing, in Darwall Street, from 10am to 6pm and is being organised by ‘Walsall First’, the pioneering initiative to boost enterprise, skills and business in the town.
Representatives from Walsall College and Tesco, the scheme’s developers, along with Walsall Regeneration Company (WRC) will be at The Crossing to answer people’s questions about the £100 million development.
Plans for the Business & Learning Campus and retail store were submitted to Walsall Council in March. They will be considered by the council’s development control committee as part of the statutory planning process.
The campus, which if approved will include a new Walsall College, is seen as key to developing the skills of Walsall’s future workforce and further establishing it as ‘a town for enterprise’.
As well as visiting the exhibition people can view the plans online by logging onto the Walsall Council website here.

Note to editors: Walsall First is a partnership that brings together the public and private sectors and was established to create a seed-bed of enterprise, skills and business that will make Walsall one of the leading towns in the West Midlands.
Its core partners are Walsall College, Tesco, Walsall Regeneration Company and Walsall Council. It is also supported by Advantage West Midlands, the Black Country Learning & Skills Council and the Black Country Consortium.
While Walsall Council is a partner in Walsall First, the plans in this exhibition have been submitted by Tesco and Walsall College. These proposals will be considered by the council’s development control committee as part of the statutory planning process. Members of this committee will determine whether planning permission is granted for the project.
