WALSALL REGENERATION COMPANY GIVES RENAISSANCE PLANS A NATIONAL LAUNCH - 25 January 2006
Walsall Regeneration Company (WRC) heads for London next week for the national launch of multi-million pound development plans to restore the town’s fortunes with thousands of new jobs and homes.
Opportunities for investment and growth in Walsall’s renaissance will be unveiled to key investors, funders and opinion formers at a special reception at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall on Tuesday 31 January.
A prospectus outlining eight major investment and development projects to transform Walsall and its economy as one of the leading towns in the West Midlands will be presented to more than 200 guests.
This high profile national event follows the successful Midland launch last week of WRC’s “Prospectus for Growth”. The document details a regeneration framework that will deliver more than 5,500 new jobs, around £755 million in public and private sector investment and more than 1,600 new homes over the next 10 to 15 years.
WRC’s chief executive Dr Peter Cromar, chairman Ben Reid and Walsall Council leader Councillor Tom Ansell will talk about the vision for a revitalised Walsall at the London launch.
Dr Cromar said: “The Midlands has given us a positive response already but we know Walsall’s regeneration is of national importance too.
“We are excited by this opportunity to reach a wider audience and to promote the opportunities available to key investors and decision makers.
“Then we will take our agenda for change and enterprise to an international level. Walsall will have a starring role in Cannes when we present the prospectus at MIPIM, Europe’s premier property show, in March.”
Work is already underway on some of Walsall’s transformational projects.
A land swap has been agreed for a state-of-the-art Business and Learning Campus, anchored by a new Walsall College and including major retail investment by Tesco. The scheme marks the inauguration of Walsall First, an initiative between Walsall College, Tesco, WRC and Walsall Council to promote skills, business and enterprise.
