Major Projects

Our Prospectus For Growth has identified a selection of projects, some of which are already well under way, that together will help deliver our vision of a confident, thriving new Walsall – a town for enterprise.  These projects are set out below.

Darlaston Strategic Development Area - A major strategic location of more than 54 developable acres, Darlaston SDA represents one of the West Midlands’ prime regeneration opportunities.
Walsall Gigaport - Potentially the most significant of the strategic transformational projects within the WRC portfolio, Walsall Gigaport could over time create up to 3,200 jobs, while retaining and attracting new commercial enterprises to the town.
Waterfront North - Planning approval for this ambitious £65 million scheme was granted in November 2006 and developer Urban Splash has been active during 2008 in carrying out final site preparations before beginning construction in 2009.
Waterfront South - This £60 million project by Jessup Developments will occupy two parcels of land to the north of Charles Street, broadly opposite the Waterfront North scheme.
Waterfront Lex - The final piece in the jigsaw‚ in the comprehensive canalside regeneration at Waterfront, the Lex site is the latest of the three waterfront schemes to be brought to market.
Tesco - Construction commenced on a brand new 11,000 sq/m Tesco superstore at the start of 2010.
Town Centre - Our aim is to create a vibrant, high quality public realm within the Town Centre (particularly retail & leisure) to shift the perception of the town towards that of a dynamic, legible and safe environment for businesses, residents and visitors.
St Matthew's Quarter - The opening of the largest town centre ASDA in the country in July 2007 - a £25 million-plus development - was a major demonstration of confidence in Walsall as a vibrant 21st century retail and leisure destination.

Associated Strategies
Strategic Public Realm - Walsall Regeneration Company, together with its partners, is investigating innovative approaches to 21st century public realm, seeing economic drivers as being the lynchpin to its success and sustainability.
