Major Projects - The new Walsall Manor Hospital

Another of the major transformational projects due for completion in 2010, this £174 million Private Finance Initiative (PFI) scheme has moved forward significantly since planning consent was given in June 2007. The women and young children's centre also opened in May 2010.

Outdated buildings on the Manor Hospital site are being replaced with state-of-the-art facilities that will provide the 21st century health care the people of Walsall deserve.

Skanska Innisfree, one of the top five construction companies in the world, is undertaking both the construction and the ongoing facilities management, a clear long-term commitment by this major international player to investing in Walsall and its future.

The hospital has remained fully operational during the build and on completion will offer additional services, with flexibility in the overall design to adapt successfully to future health care priorities.

Manor Hospital’s proposals for Foundation status underline a commitment to ensure that all of Walsall’s diverse communities are fully involved in deciding the shape and future of their own healthcare.

The rebuilding of the hospital and the training opportunities offered dovetail well with WRC’s determination to make the skills agenda a key element in its drive to establish Walsall, a Town for Enterprise.

Skanska Innisfree together with Shepherd Construction, builders of the new Walsall college has taken an active role in the Construction Academy, hosted and facilitated by WRC, which has seen the development of meaningful partnerships between the private and public sectors, the education sector and other organisations, leading to Skanska developing training and job opportunities for local people, including those in hard to reach groups.

WRC has also worked closely with key partners to ensure clear connectivity within the public realm between the hospital and the town centre.
