The start on site by Shepherd Construction in August 2007 on the new college for Walsall, is a major milestone in the transformation of Walsall’s economy, driven by the skills and enterprise agenda.

The college’s focus on building strategic partnerships with major blue chip players and the recent launch of the Roland Music Academy is the latest demonstration of the synergy being developed between Further Education and major international companies.

Furthermore, the innovative development of an Enterprise Academy at the college well in advance of the new facilities coming on stream is an excellent opportunity to raise aspirations with all sections of Walsall’s diverse communities.

The new college, which will open for learning in September 2009, will be located at the centre of the emerging Walsall Gigaport proposals right at the heart of Walsall’s increasing contribution to the regional economy.

The new Tesco to be developed on the existing college site is another important contribution to raising the quality of Walsall’s retail offer and will contribute significantly to the town becoming a destination attraction.

This major new superstore will create several hundred jobs and there is a clear commitment to local recruitment as an essential part of Tesco’s contribution to the town’s renaissance.
