Major Projects - Waterfront North

Planning approval for this ambitious £65 million scheme was granted in November 2006 and developer Urban Splash has been active during 2008 and 2009 in carrying out final site preparations before beginning construction in 2010 / 2011.

With support from regional development agency Advantage West Midlands, the proposals are for seven new buildings, designed by celebrated architects shedkm, SMC Alsop and Querkraft, and feature the iconic Oyster buildings that will sit on facing sides of the canal.

In total 154 new homes will be created, along with new offices, ground floor retail and leisure space, two new public spaces and, potentially, a hotel. Parking will be provided for 630 cars.

The attractive Wharfingers Cottage, near to the New Art Gallery, will be developed into a canalside bar or restaurant as part of the scheme.
